ISOMATE  Mating Disruption Pheromones
Naturally Sustainable Crop Protection

®

CONSUMERS prefer locally grown, sustainably produced fruits and vegetables, which has driven the adoption of safe biological products.

ISOMATE® biological mating disruption pheromones deliver zero residue control of select insect pests, season-long while protecting the environment, beneficial insects, and pollinators.

AT CBC-AGRO, WE UNDERSTAND BIOLOGICAL CROP PROTECTION

IMG_7729.jpeg
  • ISOMATE pheromones disrupt mating via competitive (following a false plume) and non-competitive (masking, desensitization, and sensory imbalance) mechanisms, preventing male moths from finding female moths, thus preventing mating, subsequent egg-laying, and larval feeding.

  • When monitoring traps are clean, mating disruption effectively prevents males from finding calling females.  However, protecting fruit, trees, branches, and roots is the true measure of effectiveness of mating disruption.

  • When adjacent orchards/vineyards are within 500 meters, area-wide mating disruption programs are essential to reduce the potential for mated females from adjacent orchards to fly into an MD orchard and lay eggs despite the reduction of mated females in the MD orchard.

ISOMATE PHEROMONES SAFELY DISRUPT INSECT MATING, PROTECTING FRUIT SEASON LONG

  • ISOMATE dispensers fill the orchard with insect-specific pheromones, delivering 10,000-fold more pheromones than a female moth produces.

  • ISOMATE dispenser design released nano-gram quantities into the air throughout the orchard, providing season-long protection

  • ISOMATE dispensers applied at 150 to 400 POINT SOURCES per Acre maximize the coverage, especially in hilly or irregularly shaped orchards.

  • ISOMATE Mist unit emitters are timed to deliver aerosol pheromone during the peak male moth flight period, providing complete coverage of the orchard with one or two Mist units per Acre.

ISOMATE mating disruption pheromones exemption from tolerance means safer fruit

EPA:  § 180.1153 Lepidopteran pheromones; exemption from the requirement of a tolerance.  Lepidopteran pheromones are naturally occurring compounds or identical or substantially similar synthetic compounds, designated by an unbranched aliphatic chain (between 9 and 18 carbons) ending in an alcohol, aldehyde, or acetate functional group and containing up to 3 double bonds in the aliphatic backbone, are exempt from the requirement of a tolerance in or on all raw agricultural commodities.

USDA National Organics Program:  § 205.601 Synthetic substances allowed for use in organic crop production. (f) As insect management. Pheromones.

CAN/CGSB-32.311-2020; Corrigendum No. 1, March 2021; Organic production systems-Permitted substances lists, Section 4.2 states “Pheromones and other semiochemicals. All sources are permitted. For pest control.”

Preventing or Mitigating Potential Negative Impacts of Pesticides on Pollinators Using Integrated Pest Management and Other Conservation Practices:  “Reducing the use of broad-spectrum insecticide sprays in orchards through mating disruption also conserves beneficial insects that prey upon secondary pests such as mites, aphids, scale, and leaf-miners. This further reduces the need for other insecticides and can often eliminate those lesser pests after a few years. In orchards with insecticide-resistant codling moth or oriental fruit moth, mating disruption may be the most effective pest management option because the control results from behavioral changes, rather than killing individual moths.” Case study:  Mating disruption and pheromone traps in Pennsylvania apple orchards by Dr. David Biddinger, Pennsylvania State University

ISOMATE PHEROMONES

Twist Ties or Mist Emitters, We’ve Got Options

24/7 DELIVERY FROM HUNDREDS OF LOW-DOSE POINT SOURCES

ISOMATE® dispensers are designed to passively release low doses of pheromone at a variable temperature-dependent rate distributed uniformly throughout the orchard or vineyard 24/7.  In the case of the Codling Moth, competitive attraction brings males to the dispensers where exposure to a high concentration of pheromone saturates sensory structures, preventing mating with signaling females.  Strategic placement of 200 to 400 ISOMATE CM/OFT TT throughout the orchard increases the potential to prevent mating.

PULSED HIGH-DOSE DELIVERY FROM DAWN TO DUSK

ISOMATE CM/OFM Mist emitters are engineered to switch on/off in 15-minute intervals to flood the orchard with high-dose plumes of mating disruption pheromones resulting in habituation (desensitization) and arrested movement of male moths.  Mist emitter applied at one to two per Acre effectively disrupts mating all season long with minimal labor to install.  Air movement disperses the pheromone to every corner of the orchard.

Protection you can count on all season long!

CLEMSON University:  “In areas like middle Georgia where peaches are everywhere, it’s almost like you have to have all those trees under disruption for it to work. In areas where it’s less densely planted, like in the upstate of South Carolina and the upstate of Georgia where you have small peach orchards isolated from each other, the mating disruption can work really well on its own.” - Dr. Brett Blaauw

VT/PSC/WVU:  Comparison of Mating Disruption and Insecticide Application for Control of Peachtree Borer and Lesser Peachtree Borer (Lepidoptera: Sesiidae) in Peach:  “ Damage from S. exitiosa (PTB) is generally confined to the trunk and roots near the soil line, while damage from S. pictipes (LPTB) occurs in the upper trunk and scaffold limbs. Consecutive infestation and larval feeding seasons can result in a decline in tree health and vigor, increase susceptibility to disease and damage from other pests, or, in severe cases, cause tree death from girdling of major scaffold limbs and/or the trunk.” Insects. 2020 Oct; 11(10): 658;  Daniel L. Frank, Stephen Starcher, and Rakesh S. Chandran.

CORNELL University:  Economic Impact of a three-year project entitled:  Evaluating Long Term Risks/Benefits of Area Wide Mating Disruption of Codling Moth in New York: “…under high codling moth populations on a 50-acre farm, in high yielding processing orchards, growers could easily pay the added cost and make $400-17,000 added profit just by reducing damage and increasing quality/value of the fruit in the first year. ….The use of mating disruption improved net cash flow over three years from $2,298 for Cortland at 900 bu. per acre and $6,053 improved net cash flow for Idared at the $13/$7 per cwt for processing/juice at a production of 1,212 bu./acre.” Deborah I. Breth, Senior Extension Associate, Cornell Cooperative Extension.
